It will forever remain a mystery why the mighty original Van Halen line-up never released a live recording, especially because they were one of the better live hard rock bands to hit the stage. The first official live Van Halen recording was the 1993 two-CD set, LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW, which collected 24 tracks from various tours with singer Sammy Hagar (spanning 1986-92). David Lee Roth-era songs are kept to abare minimum, and almost the entire FOR UNLAWFUL CARNAL KNOWLEDGE featured. Such later-Van Halen favourites as "Poundcake", "Why Can't This Be Love", "Right Now", "When It's Love", and "Best of Both Worlds" are featured. Also included is acover of the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again", Hagar's solo composition "One Way to Rock", and the Roth-standards "Panama", "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love", "You Really Got Me", and "Jump".

A respected jazz guitarist, Ernest Ranglin is one of the foundation musicians for Jamaican ska and reggae, and his contributions at the legendary Studio One have earned him the right to cross genres at will. This collection is a reissue and remix of his 1977 album Ranglin Roots, with added tracks that more than double the length of the original release without breaking or shifting its tone. This is probably the funkiest of Ranglin's albums and horns predominate (played by veterans Cedric Brooks, Dean Fraser, Herman Marquis, Joe McCormack, Jackie Willacy, Todd Schwartz, and Mark Feinberg), with Ranglin's light, fluid guitar runs slipping in and out of the gaps in seemingly effortless fashion. Although he hints and occasionally leans on Jamaican rhythms, Ranglin is first and foremost a jazz player, and he creates on this, and his other albums, a sort of Caribbean pop jazz hybrid that is his alone.

These are the roots of my career in music. These tracks have determined the path to follow and many of them where revolutionary and truly progressive at the time they where originally released. I have taken the greatest care to come up with the best possible masters, sometimes comparing up to 5 different versions to find out which one sounded the best and most pure. And sometimes even baking the analog master tapes to make them playable again. The heat evaporates the moisture in the coating of the tape. The otherwise moist backing will clog up all parts of the tape recorder the tape touches, leaving a dark glue like substance grinding everything to a halt. After the backing process, the tape becomes playable again and the transfer to digital is performed. Some tracks feature a combination of vocal and dub version just as I used to perform that combination in a live DJ-set. Such a combination features the best parts from the vocal and dub version, capturing the complete feel of what that track meant to me.
